LonghornDigest caught up with Sugar Land (TX) Dulles High safety and Texas commit Sheroid Evans. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back discussed his summer, upcoming senior season, and whether he will be a two sport athlete at the next level. Read the update below for the inside scoop!

Sugar Land (TX) Dulles safety and Texas commit Sheroid Evans has been keeping himself very busy this summer. The Scout.com number two-ranked safety in the nation has been traveling around the country participating in track meets.

“I have been running with my summer track team. We went to North Carolina, then Iowa where I won the 400-hurdles and then I qualified to run in Canada for the Junior World Championships,” said Evans.

Evans is about as good as they come in track and field. He is currently ranked number one in the nation in the 200-meter dash (20.76 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (50.5). He also won state as a junior in the 100-meters (10.39 seconds) as well as in the 200-meters (20.82 seconds).

The track isn’t the only thing that Evans has been focusing on this summer. Since he finished his track obligations, he has been focusing on improving some aspects of his game for his upcoming senior season.

“I want to cut down on getting cramps. I used to cramp up a lot and that caused me to miss the third or sometimes the fourth quarter of a game. I’ve started to drink a lot more water and eat bananas to help me stop cramping. I’ve also been practicing on taking better angles, reading the quarterback better, and improving my footwork.”

Evans plans on continuing to be a two-sport athlete at the collegiate level. He believes that his participation on the track team won’t have any effect on his football performance.

“I plan on running track when I get to Texas. Track won’t get in the way of football. I talked to the coaches back when they first started recruiting me and told them I would be running track at whatever school I chose. The coaches said they don’t have a problem with it at all, they actually like the idea of me running track.”

This season Evans hopes to help lead Dulles High to the playoffs. It has been several years since they have made the playoffs and he would like to break the streak during his senior season.

Evans plans to return to Austin this fall to check out one of the Longhorns games on his official visit.
