College Station analysis: David Ash

Some of the nations best prospects flocked to College Station this weekend, including Belton (Texas) High quarterback and Texas commit David Ash. Read the update for a breakdown of his performance on Friday.

Belton (Texas) High quarterback and Texas commit David Ash was won of the many big-time prospects on hand at this weekends state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound signal caller struggled for much of the day but also showed some flashes of brilliance.

Ash possesses a good frame at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. He was the tallest player on the field for most of the games and has a great physique. The thing that was most impressive about him was his arm strength. He was consistently able to hit 30-40 yard passes to his receivers and he was doing it with ease. Almost all of them were nice tight spirals and had a lot of pace on them.

The Belton quarterback was erratic at times with his accuracy and timing. There were multiple times where a receiver was open but he would briefly hesitate in the pocket, resulting in a late throw into traffic. His hesitations also resulted in a few interceptions. There were also a few cases where a receiver would be covered and he would force the ball in to try and make a completion.

Ash also made some very impressive throws. On one of his best throws of the day, he threw a 40-yard laser to hit his receiver on a corner route, fitting the ball over the cornerback and into a tiny window resulting in a touchdown.

In summary, Ash possesses good footwork and overall mechanics, along with a cannon for an arm. He will only improve once he gets under the tutelage of Greg Davis and the Longhorn coaching staff. His accuracy inconsistencies and hesitations looked minor and are not uncommon for a high school quarterback. Recommended Stories
