at Missouri 27 ... Bowling Green 20
Blaine Gabbert threw two touchdown passes as part of
21 unanswered points over the final 15:57 of the
game to pull out the comeback win. Bowling Green
dominated early on with Tyler Sheehan connecting
with Ray Hutson for an 11-yard touchdown pass and
with Willie Geter running for a one-yard score, but
Gabbert and the Tiger offense woke up just in time.
The Tigers outgained the Falcons 353 to 320.

Texas Tech QB Taylor Potts completed 36-of-57 passes for 456 yards and seven scores in the win over Rice.

Baylor… Didn’t Play This Week
Colorado … at Toledo 54 ... Colorado 38 ... The Buff secondary has been awful over the first two games, but it's not the only reason for the disastrous start. Cody Hawkins isn't getting any better. With so much experience and his dad as his head coach, he has to be far sharper, do a better job of making the right reads, and he has to be more consistent with his mechanics. The receiving corps was supposed to be the biggest problem coming into the season, but Scotty McKnight has stepped up and TE Riar Geer has been fine. Now the team needs to limit the mistakes and has to figure out how to finally get RB Darrell Scott into a lather. But first, the defense has to come up with something that works in a real hurry. Toledo not only threw the ball at will, but it also ran wild. Things get really tough, really fast, with at West Virginia, at Texas, and Kansas coming up to start October, so there is a chance to make amends.
Iowa State … at Iowa 35 ... Iowa State 3 ... Iowa State has to be perfect to have a shot against the brand name teams. The six turnovers against Iowa never gave the team a chance, and while the ground game did a nice job, rushing for 190 yards, Austen Arnaud couldn't stop throwing the ball to the other side. With Kent State up next, the Cyclones have to be far tighter, far better through the air, and far sharper before dealing with Army and its dangerous attack.
Kansas … Kansas 34 ... at UTEP 7 ... Kansas was humming on all cylinders in an easy road win over UTEP. Jake Sharp provided some pop to the ground game, while Todd Reesing and the passing attack kept the Miners off-balance. Everything else worked, too, with the defense holding UTEP to four rushing yards and allowed 75 of the 208 Miner yards on the one big touchdown play late in the game. The special teams also got into the act with Daymond Patterson averaging 11.5 yards per try with some big returns, including a 49-yarder.
Kansas State … at Louisiana-Lafayette 17 ... Kansas State 15
... Kansas State needs to find a passing game. Daniel Thomas was terrific as an all-around playmaker, carrying the offense with his running and throwing a touchdown pass, but Carson Coffman failed to keep the offense moving as the Wildcats converted just 4-of-17 third down attempts. As bad as this loss might be, a win over UCLA would turn the new era under Bill Snyder around. The Bruins don't have an offense, so if KSU can do anything consistently, it'll be a close battle.
Missouri … at Missouri 27 ... Bowling Green 20 ... Call it a learning curve. Blaine Gabbert was nearly flawless in the opener against Illinois, but he struggled and sputtered early on against Bowling Green and the offense could only managed field goals when touchdowns were needed. On the other side, Derrick Washington had a sensational day leading a defense that put the clamps down when it had to. With Furman and Nevada coming up next, Gabbert and the offense will have two nice chances to tune up before the North showdown against Nebraska.
Nebraska … at Nebraska 38 ... Arkansas State 9 ... After a ho-hum debut, Zac Lee threw the ball extremely well against Arkansas State doing a better job of spreading it around and keeping the Red Wolves on their heels. The defense never let the dangerous ASU offense breathe with a nice performance from the line and several plays in the backfield. This was a great warm-up for Virginia Tech and its running game. The Hokies are going to have to throw to win, while Lee and the Husker offense has to be mistake-free on the road. It's been nearly perfect so far.
Oklahoma … at Oklahoma 64 ... Idaho State 0 ... While it was an expected blowout against Idaho State, and the defense never let the game be interesting, there are still causes for concern. Landry Jones was fine, but he missed on way too many makeable passes while the O line again, for the third game in a row, got stuffed on the goal line when the team was trying to make a statement. It was a good game for Jones to get some live action, but until Sam Bradford is back, OU needs to win with its pair of terrific backs and the defense. DeMarco Murray averaged 8.4 yards per carry and Chris Brown averaged 5.9.
Oklahoma State … Houston 45 ... at Oklahoma State 35 ... The defense that did such a great job the week before in the win over Georgia with plenty of pressure, lots of big plays, and an aggressiveness that didn't let the Dawg offense get much of anything going failed to bother Case Keenum. There weren't any sacks and there wasn't nearly enough pressure. However, the Cowboys were in a spot to win. Four turnovers and nine penalties were a problem, while two mistakes in the red zone and a second straight spotty game from QB Zac Robinson all but handed Houston the win. Now, with star RB Kendall Hunter hurt and the team's psyche wounded, there are three weeks off to get healthy with Rice, Grambling State, and a bye week before dealing with Texas A&M.
Texas … Texas 41 ... at Wyoming 10 ... Where is Sergio Kindle? The Texas defense dominated the Wyoming offense, allowing a few yards here and there but getting off the field quickly on third downs, but the star Longhorn pass rusher hasn't shown up yet. He registered just two tackles against the Cowboys, but the hope has to be that he's being saved to Texas Tech to be turned loose on Taylor Potts. Offensively, Colt McCoy might not be perfect so far, but he's been able to spread the ball around well and he's getting more help than last year from his running backs.
Texas A&M … Didn’t Play This Week
Texas Tech… at Texas Tech 55 ... Rice 10 ... Not all was perfect for Texas Tech. The running game gained just 52 yards, and there were 11 penalties for 90 yards. That's it for the issues. Taylor Potts was fantastic, running the offense to near-perfection and using the Rice secondary for target practice. It was the exact way the team needed to play to get into the upcoming showdown against Texas, and to pull off the win, Potts needs time and he needs to be as decisive as he was against the Owls.
