If recruiting fans are looking for a junior in the Houston area that has a chance to go from virtual unknown to prized prospect, Pearland’s Sam Ukwauchu could very well be that guy. At 6-5, and 200 pounds with quickness, legit 4.6-speed and long arms, the junior is poised for a breakout season.
“UK” played half the season on varsity in 2008 flashing the speed and quickness that has many around the Pearland program excited.
On Tuesday, Burnt Orange Beat stopped by Pearland practice to get a first look at the rangy prospect in pads.
Sam Ukwauchu Scouting Report
The long armed junior is a legit 6-4.5/6-5 and weighs right at 200-pounds. He carries his weight well and appears to weigh less at first glance. He has the ability to build muscle mass, but will likely do so and still possess a sleek look. Down the line, Ukwuachu appears as if he will carry 240-250 pounds.
When the ball is snapped or the drills begin, one can see right away that the up and comer has quality foot quickness along with the ability to run to the football. He showed quick hands in drill work as well as the desire to search out contact.
Being a former receiver, he is raw and constantly learning the defensive end position, but is already showing the desire to be a sponge as he is mentioned as a daily watcher of video with his position coach.
In 2009, expect “UK” to be a pass rush specialist and improving player at the point of attack with the understanding that it will take his body a while to fill out and make the strength gains necessary.
On the next level, Ukwauchu could get looks at tight end as well as defensive end.
