One of the top 2011 prospects in the state of Texas is San Antonio Madison running back Aaron Green. The 5-9, 178-pound elusive back terrorized San Antonio area defenses in 2008 rushing for 1,927 yards and 25 touchdowns on 232 carries.
Playing on a team featuring Nebraska signee Andrew Green and D-I junior prospects Nate Askew and Kris Catlin, Green has already caught the eye of college programs from coast to coast. On Sunday, he made the short drive to Austin to check out the Longhorns.
“It went real good today,” Green said. “It was everything I was expecting and more.”
Green, like many of the sophomore prospects on hand arrived in Austin at noon or a little before. The back blessed with the ability to cut on a dime and accelerate by would be tacklers spent most of his time with another fellow San Antonio area standout.
“I got there around 12. I was chillin’ with Malcolm Brown while the coaches told us what the recruiting process was going to be like and the University of Texas. Malcolm was the only other recruit I knew that was there. After the coaches were done talking, we went out for the game,” Green said.
Coming without surprise, Green focused on the offense and especially the running backs during the game. The two-sport star (one of the state’s top hurdlers) noticed something about the backs.
“I was paying attention to the offense and the running backs mostly. I definitely thought I was a different back that the guys they have. Hopefully, one day, I’ll be better than them,” Green said.
While it’s early in the recruiting process and Green is open to all comers, four schools stand out.
“Really, I like everybody that is showing interest in me at this point. The schools standing out to me are the ones showing me the most interest. They are Oklahoma, Georgia, Nebraska and Texas,” Green said.
Green will compete in the district and regional track meets in the coming weeks and is a favorite to qualify for the state meet. After track season ends, the elite level running back prospect will take part in Madison spring practice which begins May 4.
