Texas Lands QB Connor Wood

Newest Longhorn Commit

In a year when the Texas Longhorns have to have two quarterbacks to replenish a depleted depth chart, the Longhorns landed a huge commitment on Sunday from Houston Second Baptist signal caller Connor Wood. Burnt Orange Beat spoke with Wood this evening after his decision.

The Texas Longhorn recruiting class of 2010 has gotten off to a tremendous start with a weekend full of surprises and commitments about ten days ago. When the state's top signal caller, Connor Wood (6-4, 203), made his pledge official to Texas today, the class started to take on the shape of another Top 5 class.

"It's been great. I love it. I'm going to Texas. I have really loved the process. I have learned so much about talking to coaches and representing my family," Wood confirmed tonight.

"I talked to Coach Davis and Coach Brown last night around 10 pm. My dad and I called all the schools that I did not choose today to tell them of my decision," Wood added.

Wood led Houston Second Baptist into the TAPPS playoffs and finished his junior 9-3 season with 2,248 passing yards and 20 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions. Wood also posted 2,300 total yards and 23 touchdowns as a sophomore. Wood also contributes on the hardwood for the Houston private school.

Before making the trip to Austin for the Texas Junior Day on February 8, Wood also visited Norman on January 24 for the Oklahoma Junior Day. Oklahoma made it clear that Wood was a top priority for the Sooners. In addition, Wood was invited to LSU's Junior Day on January 31, but was unable to attend as he traveled to the West Coast to check out USC, UCLA, and Stanford.

"It really came down to Texas, Oklahoma, and Stanford. My family did not take this decision lightly. We put a lot of prayer into it, and I am happy with my decision," Wood proclaimed.

During last season's football season, Wood took in ballgames in Norman, Baton Rouge, Athens, College Station, and Austin.

Wood chose the Longhorns over offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Missouri, Stanford, Iowa, Duke, and Rice, among others. Wood has also been getting tremendous recruiting interest from USC, and UCLA.

"The coolest part of the entire process was when coaches started to come by my school. It was unbelievable to go from just another high school kid to having college coaches come by talk about offering me a scholarship," added Wood.

Connor Wood is planning on quarterbacking the Texas team in the Under Armour/Scout.com 7 on 7 tournament in Las Vegas in early March.
