John Harris to Texas

The Texas Longhorns are already steam rolling with a pair of commitments in the 2010 class. The second official commitment of the 2010 class is Garland Naaman Forest receiver John Harris. The 6-3, 195-pound pass catcher picked the Longhorns over an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners.

Garland Naaman Forest receiver John Harris always knew he wanted to be a Texas Longhorn. On Saturday afternoon after driving down to Texas with his father, Harris got the chance he had been waiting on and pounced.

"I committed to Texas today," Harris said, "Texas was the school I've always wanted to go to."

Harris, a two time first team all-district pick, said Coach Brown offered him and he committed on the spot.

"I went in the office and talked to Coach Brown, Coach Kennedy and the offensive coordinator. Coach Brown said I was a big, talented receiver and they like that. They feel like I can help them win," Harris said.

Harris burst onto the scene as a sophomore hauling in 45 passes for 847 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2008 his yardage were down from his terrific sophomore campaign catching 45 passes for 584 yards and seven scores, but the 6-3, 195-pounder played more of a jack of all trades role as well as facing bracketed coverage every Friday night.

Harris says that he will also have some familiarity in Austin on the Texas team.

"I think I can fit in there with the rest of the receivers. I know a receiver from Garland High (Malcolm Williams) that is on the team and he can help me learn," Harris said.

Harris joins North Shore offensive tackle Trey Hopkins as known Texas commits in the 2010 class.

In addition to Oklahoma, Harris had offers on the table from Texas Tech, Arkansas and Arizona before the Longhorns extended their offer.

Harris played on a Garland Naaman Forest team the last two years with Oklahoma signee Jonathan Miller and Texas Tech safety signee Terrence Bullitt, the young brother of former Texas A&M and current Colts safety Melvin Bullitt.
