IT's Coaches Corner Moderator Mike Venable grades the Longhorn performances in Texas' win over Oklahoma.

The UT offense took on the best defensive opponent to date and forty five points later proudly defeated the nation's number one team with their best effort this season. Our OLine had their best collective game considering the quality of the opponent. We gave up four sacks but three were definitely coverage variety. We caught the ball extremely well. We ran the ball very well in key situations. We did the unexpected with formations and short yardage attempts. We returned a kickoff for a td with our special team. Best of all we had direction and leadership from our QB who came up huge in the biggest game of the year.

The UT defense may not be mistake free and are young enough in the secondary that several are just now starting to shave but the big stage of 92,000 and OU's #1 ranking didn't stop them from jacking jaws for sixty minutes without any reservations. Coach Muschamp has brought back many old fashioned ways of preparing for and then playing the game with relentless passion and a total energy attitude. Thanks to coach Champ for bringing the leadership, to the staff for teaching the game correctly, and especially the players for honoring the great game with all out effort. It's really fun watching this group this year and the best part is they are getting better every week.

The Coaches Corner is available exclusively to InsideTexas.com subscribers. The forum is a place to ask questions of our resident coaches and talk about Xs and Os, schemes, gameplans, offensive and defensive theories, etc. Basically, it is a teaching and learning forum to make us all more knowledgeable football fans, both in general and specifically about the Longhorn football team. Venable spent 30 years as the DC and LB coach at five Texas high schools (Lancaster, Duncanville, Pasadena Sam Rayburn, Carrollton Turner, and The Colony) before retiring in 2000. Four of his former players played at UT (Mike Williams, Steve Massey, Jimmy Johnson, and Doug Livingston) and around twenty are currently coaching in Texas high schools.
