Inside Texas dropped by Midway High School in Waco to talk with 2009 Texas commit Trey Graham. According to Graham and his head coach, Kent Bachtel, the talented tight end has been well prepared for playing in Austin each step of the way.

Grades have never been a problem for Trey Graham.

He's got a grade point average of 98.5 (out of 100) at Waco Midway and is already knocking out some of his college credit as a high school junior.

Along with his academics, he's been methodical in his preparations for football and making the decision of where he's headed to college. He'd received an offer from Longhorns after meeting with Mack Brown on the Texas campus, but didn't commit right away, instead sitting down with his mother and father to go over each school one-by-one.

“I really nailed it down to the schools that had shown me the most interest: Texas A&M, Texas, TCU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas,” said Graham. “I sat down with my parents and we put it all on paper, everything. How far away it was from home, coaches, what I liked about the academics, the graduation rates, all that, we put it all down on paper.”

According to Midway High School coach, Kent Bachtel, that's how the Grahams handle things.

“I tell you what, everything's been very thought out in that family,” said Bachtel. “Where they were going, what they were going to do, all that.”

That preparation extends to more than just recruiting. Graham's father, Dr. James Graham, has a gym set up at home to help his son in his football career.

“Not only does (Trey) lift here, but he'll go home and lift. His dad's got a weight room in the house,” said Bachtel.

It's just how Trey and his family operates, and after careful examination of his recruiting options, the talented tight end gave Brown a call to accept the offer to play for Texas.

“Texas couldn't be argued with,” said Trey. “They were above on everything.”

Since his commitment, Trey has still been contacted by several schools -- most frequently TCU, Notre Dame and Oklahoma -- to inquire about his commitment and invite him for visits. But does Graham have any interest in taking those visits?

“None,” said Graham. “I'm committed. It's done.”

One of the biggest reasons for Graham's commitment is academics. He told Inside Texas that UT has exactly what he's looking for in a school, specifically in his planned fields of study: business and pre-med. Bachtel went as far as to offer a prediction about Graham for once the future Longhorn's playing days are over.

“He'll end up being a physician. His daddy's a doctor and he'll be one,” said Bachtel, confidently.

Bachtel also said that Graham's academics were something that stood out to the Texas coaches and that Brown joked about Graham being too smart for them to handle.

“When I talked to Coach Brown, he said, 'God, I don't think we've got a coach that can talk with him,'” said Bachtel.

Graham shrugged off the compliments and said that's just who is and who he'll continue to be, both on and off the field.

“I study hard. I play hard,” said Graham.
