Inside Texas Recruiting Update

It’s been a little over a month since South Oak Cliff safety Kevin Brent left the University of Texas with an offer in hand. Recruiting has been rather quiet for Brent since then, but things started to heat back up this week, as he took a trip up to Norman to see what Oklahoma had to offer. So, who has the upper hand? Is it Texas or Oklahoma and is there a dark horse in the race?

“He went to Oklahoma on Tuesday and watched them practice,” South Oak Cliff head coach Chris Gilbert said of Kevin Brent. “He enjoyed it a lot. I think he liked them a lot before he went up there because he came up as an Oklahoma fan. They are definitely one of his top choices.”

Brent has now visited Texas and Oklahoma. Are there any more visits forthcoming?

“Other than those two schools, he wants to go down and watch TCU practice,” Gilbert says. “One of there coaches, Clay Jennings, has a really good relationship with our kids. Our kids really like him. That is the only other campus we have talked about getting him out to.”

One school that has been grabbing talent out of the Lone Star State with great regularity is LSU. According to Gilbert, the Tigers likely have a spot in Brent’s top three along with Texas and Oklahoma. However, one school may be standing out more than the others.

“He is very interested in Oklahoma, LSU and Texas. Those are probably his top three,” Gilbert said.

“Probably so,” Gilbert replied when asked if Oklahoma was at the top of the list. “Just because he kind of grew up a fan.”
