Marcus Davis: Still Solid? Premium Story

With the news that Greg Timmons might possibly be looking around, many Longhorn fans have to be wondering how solid the remaining 14 members of Texas’ 2009 class are in their commitments. Clear Creek’s cornerback Marcus Davis was one of the first to give his verbal to Mack Brown, but the attention and contacts from other schools has not stopped. Is Davis listening to them?

Marcus Davis admitted that schools are still trying to recruit him and would likely continue to until February of 2009, but they are likely wasting their time.

“Oh yeah, I’m a solid commitment,” Davis said when asked if he was still solid with Texas.

Davis and several of the other Longhorn commitments have already started to establish a bond; something Davis thinks will end up benefiting the group down the line.

“I’m staying in touch with some of the guys (Garrett Gilbert, Kenny Vaccaro, Paden Kelley and Patrick Nkwopara) that have already committed and establishing relationships with them,” Davis said. “I think we have one of the best classes (in the country). All of the guys are already very close and are keeping in touch with each other. When we get down there, I think we will be ready to kick things off.”

Davis appears to be very solid in his commitment to Texas and talked about some of the goals he wants to accomplish during his stay in Austin.

“Number one, I want to get a good education,” Davis said. “Even though I’m a freshman, they have told me if I come in and work hard I could get some early playing time. So, I just want to come in and work hard and earn a spot on defense.”

Davis normally runs track during the spring but decided to take part in Clear Creek’s off-season football program to cap off his junior year instead.

“I’ve been training in our off-season football program,” Davis said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever done it. I’m just trying to get bigger and maintain my speed.”

Davis plans on being in Austin this weekend for a scrimmage and will likely return for Texas’ spring game on March 29th.
