Williams Stopping by Texas? Premium Story

After two stops for junior days, Abilene LB Chris Williams is kind of taking a break from the recruiting road trips. But could there be one or two campuses that will see the Texas Top 100 athlete before the end of spring training?

Even though he has named no favorites for the moment, Abilene (TX) linebacker Chris Williams has taken only two visits this spring (Texas A&M and Texas Tech).

And he only has two more trips planned and one includes Austin.

“Me and my family plan to go to Austin and check out a practice,” Williams said about an unofficial visit to Texas. “I will try and go back to Lubbock (Texas Tech) as well.”

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Williams has offers from Tennessee, TCU, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Baylor, Arizona, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. When it comes to Williams, patience is something he is using when it comes to football recruiting.

“There are no favorites and all of the schools that have offered me are neutral,” Williams said. “I am taking my time to see what is right for me and my family. It’s been a lot of fun though. Every time I go into the coaches office it seems like there are offers, and always a lot of letters.”

And of those letters, it is obvious that some of them are from Texas. But even without an offer he still wants to visit Texas and check things out.

Apparently, Texas has been a longtime favorite of his since elementary school.

“Growing up, Texas was one of my favorite schools,” Williams said. “I know that that is a program that can get you to the next level. Coach Mack Brown is great and I know that he is not going anywhere.”

And with said, one of Williams’ key pointers when evaluating a school is the coach retention. That, amongst other things, is a big plus in his quest in looking for the right fit.

“I’m definitely looking for somewhere where I can play for a national title,” Williams said. “I want to get a good education and want the school to be in a good community. I also want to go to a place that I know that the coach will be there. I don’t want to go somewhere where the coach is gone by my sophomore year.”

As a junior, Williams recorded 90 tackles (30 for loss) and 12 sacks.
