Limas Sweed missed the last seven games of the 2007 with a wrist injury, but his recovery has gone well and he'll get one last shot to show off for NFL scouts.
Sweed will take part in the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl on January 26. He'll be joined in Mobile, Ala. by senior safety Marcus Griffin.
Sweed, who was a two-time All-Big 12 selection, finished his career with 124 receptions (No. 6 on UT's all-time list) for 1,915 yards (No. 5 on UT's
all-time list) and 20 TDs (No. 2 on UT's all-time list) in 43 games (39 straight starts). He posted 19 receptions for 306 yards and three TDs in six games this past season.
Griffin, who earned first-team All-Big 12 and second-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2007, played in 49 career games, starting 23, and posted
231 tackles, three TFL, a sack, five INTs, eight PBU, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He led the team in tackles (99) and INTs (five) in 2007 and also had five PBU, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Senior Bowl will kickoff at 2 p.m. (CST) on January 26 and the game will be nationally televised by the NFL Network.
Elsewhere in post-season All-Star games, Frank Okam will play in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 19 at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium. The game will air live on ESPN2 at 6
Okam was tabbed first-team All-Big 12 by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and second-team All-Big 12 by The Associated Press and the league’s coaches after posting 49 tackles, 10 TFL, a team-high five sacks, 16 pressures, four PBD, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery this past season. Okam played in 49 career games, starting 38, and recorded 157 tackles, 10 sacks, 27 TFL, 46 pressures, 11 PBD, a forced fumble and five fumble recoveries.
Senior linebacker Scott Derry is getting himself a trip to Hawai'i for the 2008 Hula Bowl, which takes place in Honolulu and is scheduled for January 12 at 5 p.m. (CST) on the Versus Network.
Derry, a two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 performer and three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree, appeared in 37 career games,
starting 23. He tallied 159 tackles, 15 TFL, two sacks, an INT, two PBU and two forced fumbles during his career. He finished fifth on the team in tackles in 2007 with 68 to go along with four TFL, an INT and a forced fumble.
Also, Robert Killebrew will play in the 2nd Annual Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge at the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.
Killebrew appeared in 49 games for Texas, starting 34, at strongside linebacker and notched 179
tackles, five sacks, 16 TFL, 17 pressures, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He finished 2007 with 57 tackles, two TFL and a sack.
The game will be on Feb. 2 and the broadcast will be on CSTV at 4 p.m. (CST).
