Texas offense: Texas’ offense had a dozen possessions against the Red Raiders and scored on nine of those possessions. To make that stat even more impressive, Texas went to its “victory” formation at the end of the game for one of those possessions. Texas scored 24 points in the fourth period alone.
Charting McCoy: Colt McCoy was once again phenomenal, completing 21 of 30 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 11 times for 51 yards, including a scintillating 22-yard touchdown run with 6:57 left to play. McCoy on the season is now 238 of 361 (66 percent) for 2,900 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also has now had five straight games with at least 40 yards rushing.
Jamaal’s numbers: Jamaal Charles was on his way to yet another monster game when he left with an ankle injury early in the second half. He finished the game with 174 yards rushing on 23 carries, but only nine of those yards came in the second half. His season totals are 1,366 yards on 214 carries with 15 touchdowns. He’s gone over the 3,000-yard mark for his career as well – he sits at 3,075 yards and has scored 33 rushing touchdowns in his career, along with three receiving scores. He is tied with Steve Worster with 36 total career touchdowns; Earl Campbell is next on the list with 41. Charles returned to the game in the second half, but did not see significant playing time after the injury.
Cosby show: Quan Cosby was the go-to receiver for McCoy in this one, catching eight passes for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both in the second half. He now has 58 catches on the season for 613 yards and five touchdowns. His career numbers are 118 catches, moving him to seventh on the all-time Texas career list past Johnny Walker, who caught 114 balls. His career receiving yardage is 1,408 yards.
Tony Hills injured: Tony Hills left the game with 5:13 left to play in the first quarter, injuring his left ankle. Hills was taken from the field on a cart, and didn’t appear to be in tremendous pain as he was driven away, as he acknowledged both the crowd and his teammates on his way to the locker room. Buck Burnette then moved into the game at center and Chris Hall shifted to left tackle in Hill’s spot.
Nate Jones: Nate Jones scored a touchdown in his final game in Austin, tightrope walking to the end zone on a 34-yard pass in the fourth period. He finished the game with four catches for 67 yards.
Jermichael Finley: Jermichael Finley caught four important passes for 41 yards, moving his season totals to 40 catches for 541 yards. He’s now caught 71 passes for 913 yards in his career.
Miscellaneous: Texas has now won five consecutive games against Texas Tech. The Longhorns lead the overall series 43-14, and have a 27-5 mark against the Red Raiders in Austin…Saturday’s game was senior day, and the Horns’ 14 scholarship seniors (Nate Jones, Billy Pittman, Limas Sweed, Dallas Griffin, Tony Hills, Derek Lokey, Thomas Marshall, Frank Okam, Scott Derry, Robert Killebrew, Brandon Foster, Marcus Griffin, Erick Jackson and Drew Kelson) are 43-6 in their era…With a win, Texas becomes the only team in the nation to win at least nine games for 10 consecutive seasons… Kicker Ryan Bailey has now kicked 57 straight PATs…The Longhorns are 40 of 43 versus state of Texas teams in the Brown era.
Tech notes: Tech receiver Danny Amendola has caught a pass in 40 straight games. He’s the only senior starter on the Tech offense (a rather frightening thought), and caught eight passes for 82 yards against Texas. His season totals are 94 receptions for 1,096 yards…Receiver Michael Crabtree was phenomenal, though most of his damage came late in the game with the Red Raiders playing catch-up. He caught nine passes for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His PlayStation season numbers are 113 catches for 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns – it’s the most receptions and most touchdown receptions by a freshman in NCAA history. He also holds Tech records for receptions, touchdowns and receiving yardage in a season…Alex Trlica now has 45 career field goals, a Tech record. Trlica entered the Texas game four away from 226 field goals, which is the NCAA record, and he kicked a pair against Texas. He has converted all 225 extra points in his career, best in NCAA history…In Leach’s career, Tech has passed the ball for 21.6 miles – before Saturday, when the Red Raiders added 466 yards to that mileage total…Speaking of PlayStation, Harrell completed 36 of 48 passes for 466 yards and five touchdowns. He’s now tossed 38 touchdowns passes this season, with six interceptions.
