Texas center Dallas Griffin's career at Texas is done after the senior sustained an ACL tear in the Longhorn's 38-35 win over Oklahoma State. Safety Drew Kelson, who also suffered a knee injury in the game, will miss at least two weeks.

Texas senior center Dallas Griffin has played his last game in Burnt Orange. His first quarter knee injury against Oklahoma State turned out to be an ACL tear. According to Griffin, it was a complete tear.

“I got hurt in the first quarter and I went into the locker room. The team surgeon checked my knee out and told me that it looked like I didn't have an ACL anymore,” said Griffin. “I knew then that my season was over.”

Even though he's done playing football at Texas, Griffin said he still wants to be very involved in coaching the younger players.

“My season on the field is done, but I want to make sure my involvement with the team isn't,” said Griffin. “I feel like I can help out the younger guys on the line and parlay my experience into their experience. I want to make sure the depth at center is strong. We're gonna need it now.”

Both sophomore Chris Hall and redshirt freshman Buck Burnette played in relief of Griffin against Oklahoma State. Texas lists Hall as the starter with Burnette as his back-up on the official depth chart, which was released Monday.

Texas senior safety Drew Kelson also suffered a knee injury against Oklahoma State. Kelson told Inside Texas on Monday that he suffered a knee sprain and will miss two weeks and is hopeful for a return for the showdown with Texas A&M in College Station on November 23rd.

“Hopefully,” said Kelson, who will be on the sideline on senior day against Texas Tech. “Hopefully after the bye week (before Texas A&M) I can return.”

After his injury in the second quarter, Kelson came back to the sideline and was on crutches, but told IT that it was primarily precautionary.

“They (team doctors) just wanted me to keep pressure off it. I didn't really need them. They didn't have a diagnosis at the time, so they were just being careful,” said Kelson.

Kelson was working as both the fourth cornerback and a combo S/LB for the Horns. Since Kelson is not expected to play Saturday against Texas Tech, who starts at dimeback?

"Erick Jackson is a candidate for that," Co-Defensive Coordinator Duane Akina said Monday. "You've got some things you can move around with (RCB) Chykie Brown) and (LCB) Curtis Brown). With (Ryan Palmer and Deon Beasley), you have some flexibility."

Brandon Foster left the Oklahoma State game with a chest injury, but Akina said the senior could also start as the dimeback with Beasley and Palmer handling the corners.

Jackson lost his starting SS job to Ishie Oduegwu after surrendering a 43-yard completion on Baylor's opening series, October 20. The smart money is on Jackson operating with the Ones on Tech's opening drive. The Horns typically have opened with either its nickel- or dime-package when facing the air Raiders. Jackson is Texas' tallest DB (6-2) and, with eight starts, is among the most experienced of candidates from dimeback.

Kick-off against Texas Tech is set for 2:30 p.m. This Saturday.
