Longhorn redshirt freshman fullback Antwan Cobb sustained an ACL sprain late in the Iowa State game, which will require season-ending surgery, UT athletic trainer Kenny Boyd confirmed on Monday.
Starting fullback
Antwan Cobb
is done for the year,
Texas
trainer Kenny Boyd confirmed on Monday. Cobb sustained an ACL sprain on his left knee late in the game against
Iowa State
and will undergo surgery.
Cobb has played in all seven games, making one start, at fullback and on special teams this season. He has carried the ball eight times for 34 yards, while making one tackle. The Pflugerville (Texas) High School product also scored on his first collegiate play from scrimmage, a 16-yard TD reception, against
Arkansas State
.
In a release from Texas, Cobb said:
"I'm disappointed about having to miss the rest of the season, but I'm going to do everything I can to support the team while I'm out. "I'm going to work as hard as I can during rehab so I can get back on the field next year and be better than ever."
Texas head coach Mack Brown also released a statement:
"We're disappointed for Antwan. He's been really coming on and getting better each week. Antwan's been a valuable contributor at fullback and on special teams so someone will have to step up to fill his void. We look forward to him getting back and healthy and are excited about his future."
Junior running back
Chris Ogbonnaya
is now listed on the Texas depth chart as the co-starter at fullback along with freshman tight end
Blaine Irby
.
