Paden Kelley: Interest Growing
Kelley made the most of his summer break. He didn't attend any camps, but Kelley and his dad decided to make a road trip and check out some of the top schools in the southeast.
"I didn't go to many camps, but I visited a handful of schools," Kelley said. "I visited Florida, Florida State, Alabama, LSU and Texas. I was actually going to visit Florida State, but my dad and I decided to make a road trip out of it. LSU actually heard we were on our trip and called to see if we wanted to come by."
"They basically gave us a tour of the facilities, and we met with the academic advisors, coaches and trainers. We pretty much got the whole spill," Kelley added.
Kelley lives in the Austin area and has visited the 40 Acres on several occasions this year. He was at the Kansas State game over the weekend and talked about the experience.
"I have been to a couple of their (Texas) home games. I'm definitely interested (in UT)," Kelley said. "We got to go on the field and watch the team warm up. I visited with coach (Mac) McWhorter, coach (Greg) Davis and coach (Mack) Brown. I talked to them a little bit before the game."
Despite the early interest, Kelley is mainly focused on his junior season. He is still open to everybody and isn't thinking about favorites right now.
"I haven't really," Kelley said when asked if he had a favorite. "I've mostly been thinking about the game we have coming up next week and about my grades."
The word on Kelley is that he is one of the most athletic offensive linemen in the country. He talked about where the athleticism comes from.
"Back in my Pop Warner days, I used to play full back, linebacker and defensive end. As a tackle, that really helps out a lot. Having played defensive end, I kind of know what the defense is going to do."
