Shepard: Interest Growing with Every Visit
Inside Texas Recruiting Update

The Texas Longhorns had a number of quarterbacks on campus for summer camp throughout the weekend, but none with a higher profile than Cy-Ridge’s Russell Shepard. Shepard left Austin extremely impressed with the 2008 recruiting class and the atmosphere at the 40 Acres.

“I went real good. We got to do a lot of different things. I was very impressed and had a good time,” Russell Shepard said. “We did a lot of one-on-one drills with the wide receivers and the defensive backs. They tested us on certain things like footwork and we ran the 40-yard dash.”

It’s not every day that a quarterback comes along with the kind of speed that Shepard possesses. He clocked in at 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

According to Shepard, he becomes more and more impressed with what the Longhorns have to offer every time he visits. However, he has only seen schools inside the state of Texas and still wants to venture out-of-state to see what other programs are all about.

“Texas is up there right now. I’ve only been to Texas A&M and Texas. But every time I visit Texas, I become more and more impressed with them. I still want to visit Alabama, Arkansas and Florida. Those are going to be my out-of-state trips that I will make sometime next year,” Shepard said. “But as far as Texas goes, I’m impressed with everything.”

Did any of the other 2009 prospects stand out in Shepard’s eyes? “Nobody really stood out in the 2009 class,” Shepard said. “I love (Aaron) Williams. He definitely stood out. He is the best player I’ve seen in a long time. Just seeing him, Dan (Buckner), and Riley (Dodge) working together made an impact on me. Seeing the kind of talent that they have coming in made me love this school even more. When everybody knows your name, even the trainers, it makes you feel even more welcome.”
