Report: Tre Newton Becomes Commit 14

According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, Southlake Carroll running back Tre Newton is the Texas Longhorns' 14th commit of the 2008 class, joining Dragon teammate Riley Dodge, who gave his verbal earlier in the day.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Tre Newton, the son of former Dallas Cowboy Nate Newton, finally got his scholarship offer and committed to the Texas Longhorns. Southlake Carroll teammate Riley Dodge committed to Texas earlier in the day.

Newton rushed for 2,010 yards in helping Carroll win its third straight 5A state title. The Dragon running back chose Texas over Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Dodge and Newton told the Dallas Morning News they would be graduating early from Carroll and would enroll at Texas in January, 2008.
