Catching up with Jermie Calhoun

Jermie Calhoun from Van High School is without a doubt one of the best running backs in the state of Texas. He has put together back-to-back excellent seasons and already has two early scholarship offers to show for it.

"Only Kansas State and Ole Miss (have offered)," Jermie Calhoun said. "Texas A&M has been talking to me a lot but has not offered anything."

Calhoun is hearing from schools all over the map but the most interest is coming from the Big 12 programs. He confirmed that Texas is still his overall favorite even though he hasn't heard from them since the beginning of his junior season.

"Yes," Calhoun replied when asked if Texas was still his overall favorite. "I have always liked Texas. I grew up watching them as a kid. They have a good program. I went down there for camp, and I like how they run stuff there. I also like their coaching staff and everything."

Calhoun put together another good campaign at Van High School during his junior season. Despite his outstanding numbers, he believes there is still room for improvement.

"I could have done better, but I thought I had a good season," Calhoun said. "I had 1,600 yards on 247 carries and 21 touchdowns."

The 6-foot-0, 205-pound Calhoun was a second team all-state selection as a sophomore. He has tremendous athletic ability and power as a runner and will definitely be one of the most sought after prospects in the Lone Star State for the class of 2008.
