In a nearly flawless first half performance, the Longhorns completely dominated the Owls on their way to a 41-0 halftime lead. Mack Brown emptied the bench in the second half to keep the score down, otherwise Texas could have named the final score.
Cedric Benson
is able to turn the corner and do some damage. Benson ran inside and outside on his way to his best game of the young season. For the day he had 130 yards on 18 carries.
Nathan Vasher
streaks downfield for 58 yards on his biggest punt return of the night. He set up the Texas offense at Rice's 13 yard line after this return.
Roy Williams
scores following Vasher's return to push the score to 14-0.
Derrick Johnson
and the rest of the Texas defense took out their frustration on an Owl offense that was never able to get anything going. Rice was held to 57 total yards in the first half and finished the game 1-10 on third down conversions.
Selvin Young
busts through the line and scores in the 2nd quarter. Young left the game shortly after this carry with groin and shoulder injuries.
Vince Young
jukes a Rice defender on his way to 54 yards on seven carries. Young also had 54 yards passing, going 3-5 on the night.
Derrick Johnson scoops up a fumble during first half action.
David Thomas
takes a Vince Young pass for 20 yards. This play led to the final score on the night for Texas.
Nathan Vasher grabs his 13th career interception to move into 4th place on the all-time UT interception list. This pick led to a Cedric Benson touchdown to make the score 41-0.
Cedric Benson runs down the sideline on his way to a 59-yard TD reception. Mock was a perfect 8-8 for 159 yards on the night.
