Longhorns commitment Charles Omenihu

Three-star defensive end Charles Omenihu walks around with a different sense of purpose these days as a Longhorns commitment.

Ever since the No. 43 DE in the country committed to Texas on Feb. 24 he's been Charlie Strong's top sales rep, taking to Twitter to try and recruit other players on Texas' behalf.

"I've really taken on the roll of recruiting the best guys," Omenihu said at the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp. "I know guys that they really want me to get. So that's what I am focused on now since I was the first one to commit under Charlie Strong."

Omenihu was actually the second commitment under Strong as three-star offensive tackle Ronnie Major switched his pledge from Baylor to UT two days prior. Regardless, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound DE feels a sense of pride in being one of Strong's first pledges.

"I take pride in that," he said. "I feel like I'm a leader. I jumped on the boat because I feel like it's the right fit for me playing time wise and location, and I love the coaching staff."

Omenihu wouldn't name names when it came to who the coaching staff has asked that he keep in touch with, but he did acknowledge that he was friends with these players prior to committing.

It's an easy sale, he says, being a defensive player selling recruits on a Louisville-type defense, which was ranked near the top of the country under Strong, with Texas talent.

"I'm selling the defensive scheme they brought over from Louisville, which was one of the top defenses last year," he said. "That's the main thing. We want to have the best defense.

"This is going to be their first class and we are trying to get the best class we can. We want to turn around Texas as fast as we can at Texas because winning is everything down there."

It seems to be working so far for Omenihu.

"They all like Texas," he said. "All of them will probably have Texas at the end."
