Newest Longhorns commit DeShon Elliott

Charlie Strong and the Texas Longhorns landed one of the top safety prospects in the country moments ago. The 2015 class if off to a great start as Strong and company have landed their third verbal commitment in less than a month.

Charlie Strong and the rest of the Texas coaches have put a huge emphasis on recruiting the state of Texas, and the hard work is paying off as four-star safety DeShon Elliott (Rockwall, Texas/Heath) announced his commitment to Texas on Tuesday via Twitter.

Elliott tweeted out, ""I'm taking my talents to the REAL DBU. Officially committed to the University of Texas. Thanks to all my supporters.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete was said to have been down to the Longhorns and Aggies.

He held offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech before finally picking the Longhorns.

Elliott is big, fast and physical and has a great motor. He is a perfect fit for what Strong wants to do defensively, and has the ability to play multiple positions based off numerous factors moving forward.

He is the highest ranked player Texas has landed since the arrival of the new staff at No 13. The other two are three-star defensive end Charles Omenihu (Rowlett, Texas/Rowlett) and three-star offensive tackle Ronnie Major (Huntsville, Texas/Huntsville).

Elliott is the eighth member of UT's 2015 class and the second safety to commit along with three-star Johnny Shaw (Center, Texas/Center).

Scout.com Take:

As a junior in 2013, Elliott collected 70 stops, seven tackles for a loss, four sacks, three interceptions and forced three fumbles.
