Newsome Collects Texas Offer

Newsome Collects Texas Offer

Ryan Newsome went through quite a bit of the recruiting process waiting for Texas to decide whether it was going to offer.

And when that offer finally came on Saturday, even though it was expected, it came as a relief for the star Aledo wideout, who had been expecting an offer before, only to fall short.

"The offer was really great," Newsome said. "At the same time, when Mack Brown was there, I was told (an offer was coming) and they didn't do it. It left a sour taste in my mouth, that they had me come down here and didn't offer me when they said that they would.

"I don't know if I would call it a weight lifted," Newsome said. "But I would say that it's finally relieving to know what direction they were going."

The Texas staff knew how long Newsome had been waiting. After Longhorn coach Charlie Strong extended the offer, he and Newsome walked out of the room, where Newsome was immediately mobbed by the Texas coaching staff.

"They all jumped on me when I got in there," Newsome said, laughing. "I feel good about it, and that's probably an understatement. Coach Strong sat down and told me that I was the best slot receiver out there in the country and a top target for the program."

Now that Newsome has his Texas offer, he said he can start the next phase of his recruitment, the evaluation phase.

"I really just what to sit down and start to evaluate this whole thing," Newsome said. "The next step is the evaluating process. I might continue getting other offers as well, but at this point, I don't' want to wait and just let it all build up on me, where I can't narrow it down because there are too many choices."

Part of that evaluation process will be evaluating what Texas brings to the table.

"I want to see what Texas does this year," Newsome said. "As much as I love this school, and I talk to Jerrod Heard, and talk to Johnathan Gray probably every other day, I want to see what they're going to do."
