Brewer Appeal Rejected

Just before a weekend when Texas will entertain one potential graduate transfer quarterback, a second had his appeal to look at the Longhorns denied.

Texas Tech quarterback Michael Brewer asked that he be able to transfer without restriction after he was originally denied permission to contact Big 12 schools Texas and TCU. A Tech panel rejected his appeal on Thursday, releasing the following statement.

“According to faculty athletics representative Brian Shannon, on Thursday, Feb. 13, a panel of Texas Tech’s Athletics Council heard Michael Brewer’s appeal concerning the Texas Tech coaching staff’s denial of permission to contact and the one-time transfer exception with regard to the University of Texas and TCU. The five-member panel upheld the head coach’s decision and denied Michael’s appeal. The decision was consistent with Texas Tech and Big 12 Conference policy and practice regarding intraconference transfers and consistent with NCAA rules.”

Texas is set to host USC graduate transfer Max Wittek this weekend.

Brewer, who competed just up the road at Lake Travis, was a sophomore in 2013, but will graduate with his bachelor's degree in May, giving him two seasons of eligibility left.

That same panel actually rejected fellow former Red Raider and Lake Travis standout Baker Mayfield's appeal about a month ago when Mayfield, a walk-on, sought the ability to transfer scot-free into Oklahoma. Mayfield went ahead and enrolled at Oklahoma, though he'll lose an extra year of eligibility, meaning he'll be a junior when he's eligible to play.again.
