Jeffcoat Named Nagurski Semifinalist

Texas defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat has been named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award for the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year.

The Maxwell Football Club announced that Jackson Jeffcoat was one of 16 semifinalists for the award, with the three finalists to be named on Nov. 25th. The winner will be announced on Dec. 12 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

Jeffcoat has twice been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and leads the conference in sacks. The senior defensive end ranks sixth on the Texas team with 38 tackles, with a team-leading 9.5 tackles for loss. That second mark ties him for third in the Big 12. Jeffcoat's six sacks, all solo, ties him for first in the league. He also has 11 quarterback hurries, two passes broken up, two fumbles recovered an an interception that helped close out the Iowa State game.

Jeffcoat has 49 tackles for loss over his Texas career, which puts him ninth on the Texas career list. His 20.5 career sacks are three short of the school's top 10.

Eligible voters for the award include the Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media.
