Texas senior wide receiver Mike Davis will not be suspended when Texas travels to Dallas to take on Red River rival Oklahoma.
Saturday, the Big 12 released a sharp reprimand of Davis's block which came with 4:30 left in the third quarter of Thursday's Iowa State contest. Following a six-yard Joe Bergeron touchdown run, Davis was flagged for unnecessary roughness after a late block on Deon Broomfield's thigh. Davis wasn't ejected from that game, and per the Big 12, he won't be suspended either.
Here's what Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby had to say about the play.
"In accord with the conference's Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct policy, Mr. Davis' action was in violation of the rule prohibiting physically abusive acts toward an opponent's team members during a contest," Bowlsby said. "Given the heightened emphasis on player safety, unnecessary and illegal acts such as this have no place in the game and are unacceptable. Mr. Davis is also put on notice that any future such behavior may result in a more serious penalty, including possible suspension."
