Bond To Transfer

Forward Jaylen Bond will transfer out of the Texas program following the end of the spring semester, the forward announced Monday. He will not participate in the College Basketball Invitational presented by Buick.

"While this was a difficult decision to make, I feel it is the right one for me at this time," Bond said. "I want to thank everyone who played a part in allowing me the privilege to attend The University of Texas. This starts with the coaching staff, my fellow teammates and the educational staff who have helped me during the past two years. They have taught me a lot, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this program.

"It wouldn't be right for me to continue playing in the postseason and take minutes away from my teammates who are returning," Bond continued. "Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me while I was here."

Bond entered the 2012-2013 season as one of the top returning by-rate rebounders in the Big 12, and he figured to play a major role on a Texas team that included four other sophomores and six freshmen. But Bond was injured early on and struggled to find a spot in the rotation after he healed up.

Bond played in 20 of Texas's 33 games with two starts, averaging 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per contest this season.

His departure gives the Longhorns 10 returning scholarship players heading into the 2013-2014 season. Texas currently has one player committed to join the team, point guard Isaiah Taylor. Recommended Stories
