As expected, the Texas Longhorns accepted an invitation to play in the sixth-annual College Basketball Invitational presented by Buick.

The Longhorns (16-17 overall, 7-11 Big 12) will open the tournament on the road by playing Houston (19-12, 7-9 Conference USA) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The CBI is a single-elimination tournament up until the championship series, which features a best-of-three contest between the two final teams. Opening Round games will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the Quarterfinal Round slated for Monday, March 25. The Semifinals will then take place on Wednesday, March 27. The Championship Series will be played on Monday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 3, with a third game on Friday, April 5, if needed. Every game of the CBI will be played on campuses.

Past winners of the tournament include Pittsburgh (2012), Oregon (2011), VCU (2010), Oregon State (2009) and Tulsa (2008).

This marks Texas's first postseason appearance in a non-NCAA Tournament since the Longhorns played in the Postseason NIT after the 1985-1986 season. Those Longhorns went to the second round.

Texas is one of just two non-major conference schools in the 16-team field, with Purdue being the other. Should the Longhorns win their first game, they would play the winner of George Mason and College of Charleston.
