Croaker To Decide This Week

Croaker To Decide This Week

Scoring wing Demarcus Croaker talks about his recent visit to Texas and his upcoming college decision.

"I thought it was pretty good," Demarcus Croaker said of his Texas visit this past weekend. "It was great, actually. I really enjoyed it. I had a good time spending time with the coaches and players."

Croaker said his favorite part was spending time with the coaching staff, and particularly renowned strength and conditioning coach Todd Wright. With Croaker holding about 175 pounds on his 6-foot-3 frame, Wright is a coach that can fill out that build while continuing to expand Croaker's already great explosiveness.

Croaker scored 21 points per game, grabbed four rebounds per contest and dished out five assists per game as a junior at Orlando (Fla.)'s Jones High School, and he excelled in AAU ball for the Florida Rams before deciding to commit to Murray State. But the more he thought about it, the more Croaker wanted to reopen his recruitment.

"I had only taken that one visit to Murray State, so I wanted to see what else is out there," Croaker said. "I wanted to see what else people were offering. You don't usually just take one visit, unless that place is your dream school."

When Croaker decommitted, he said that Texas was his new favorite, and he admitted that he considered committing to the Longhorns when he visited for the Baylor game.

"Yeah, I definitely thought about it," Croaker said.

Texas fans won't have to wait long for his decision. Croaker said that he wasn't going to visit anyone else, and said that he would make his decision "before this week's over with."

That could be good news for the Longhorns, who were drawn to Croaker's athleticism and ability to score.

"The coaches said they liked that I'm aggressive, that I can attack and score the ball," Croaker said. "They like that I can score in many different ways, either by shooting the ball or attacking the rim. I can get out and score the ball. They said they need a scorer, and that they're looking at me as that guy."

Could Croaker see himself as that guy?

"Oh yeah, of course," Croaker said. "Even though [Texas is] really young, all freshmen and sophomores, I think I would be able to step in and play that role."
