Lady Raiders Upset No. 23 Kansas, 70-63

Chynna Brown led all scorers with 20 points for the second-straight game as the Lady Raiders defeated the Jayhawks, 70-63.

Lubbock, Texas – Since scoring 19 points against Iowa State on January 5, senior Chynna Brown scored just 16 points across a two-game span, five against Kansas State and 11 against Oklahoma, before finding her stroke on the road against the Longhorns on Wednesday.

Brown lit up against Texas going 9-for-16 from field for 20 points to lead Texas Tech in scoring en route to the Lady Raiders first win in Austin since February 26,2006.

The Dallas, Texas native followed up that performance with yet another solid night as on Saturday she reached the 20-point plateau for the second-straight game-leading Tech in a 70-63 victory against No. 23/21 Kansas inside the United Spirit Arena.

Brown finished the night shooting 8-for-13 from the field for 20 points leading Texas Tech (14-4, 4-2 in Big 12 Conference play) in that category, but also contributed in other facets of the game.

Brown led the team in assists with four and steals with four as well, with the biggest of those coming with just 25 seconds left in regulation.

Kansas (11-5, 2-3) had cut the Lady Raider lead down to three, 66-63, with just 45 seconds left on the clock, and brought the ball down the court and a chance to either cut the lead down to one or tie the game slipped away as Monica Engelman turned over the ball right into the hands of Brown.

Engelman finished the night with 12 points for the Jayhawks, while Chelsea Gardner led all Kansas players in scoring with 18.

Along with Brown, Casey Morris for the third-straight game reached double figures scoring 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting.

Tech now prepares for its first trip to Morgantown, West Virginia as the Lady Raiders and Mountaineers meet for the first time in program history, first tip is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.
