Grooms sprains ankle, day-to-day

OU point guard Sam Grooms

NORMAN, Okla. — For the second time in as many months, reserve point guard Sam Grooms is on the sidelines with an injury, this time after spraining his left ankle in practice.

The 6-foot-1, 203-pound senior guard was forced to watch the rest of Thursday's practice in a boot after doing so.

"He just tweaked his ankle a little bit there late," said OU head coach Lon Kruger of his veteran who suffered a concussion just a few weeks earlier. "Nothing more than precautionary really. He sprained it slightly a little bit during the holiday break, so it's been a little bit tender and he just landed awkwardly today and should be back tomorrow."

As those comments suggest, Grooms is expected to play in this weekend's Bedlam battle against Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. inside Lloyd Noble Center.

He has managed 2.2 points and 2.2 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game so far this season in coming off the bench behind freshman guard Je'lon Hornbeak.
