State of Recruiting: Quarterbacks

Taking a look at Texas's 2013 recruiting class, position-by-position. Up now, quarterbacks.

Returning starters in italics.

Current Longhorns (4): David Ash, Case McCoy, Connor Brewer, Jalen Overstreet

Current 2013 Commitments (1): Tyrone Swoopes

Commentary: The Longhorns spent a pretty public few weeks evaluating junior college options at the position, and it ended up in an offer, with the coaches extending a recent one to Garden City Community College signal caller Nick Marshall. Texas already has a quarterback committed for 2014 in Jerrod Heard, and should Texas land Marshall — who is expected to visit in January — it would give the Longhorns a whopping six QBs on roster for that year (barring a position change or transfer). If the Longhorns were dead-set on upgrading at the position immediately (which is interesting given the overall year that Ash had), a better option might be a one-year graduate transfer.

Verdict: Who knows at this point? It could depend somewhat on what happens with Case McCoy's situation.
