Jefferson not focusing on draft decision

OU free safety Tony Jefferson

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooner free safety Tony Jefferson was asked Tuesday evening what he'll do after the bowl game.

"As far as what?" Jefferson asked.

Probed further, the 5-foot-11, 212-pound second team All-American safety was pretty short and to the point about his potential NFL Draft decision.

"I don't know," Jefferson said.

He was quick to point out where his focus lies as the Sooners prepare to face off against former Big 12 opponent Texas A&M in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic Jan. 4 in Arlington, Texas, and it's not on where he'll end up should he forego his final collegiate season.

"I mean I don't really think about it; I don't," Jefferson said. "Like I said, I'm just worried about—I'm really anticipating this game and just ready to play some football. I'm not worried about outside stuff. That stuff's gonna be there when the game's over."

Jefferson did say—and it should be no surprise—he'll turn his paperwork in to get some feedback on where he'd potentially go in the draft.

"Oh yeah," Jefferson said. "Check my grade? Do that, yeah, but in no rush. Not really worried about it right now. Just enjoying this."

As far as the decision when it comes decision time here in a few weeks, he made it clear whose it will be.

"Mine," Jefferson said. "It's gonna fall into my hands, what do I feel like."

But he will consult his parents.

"Of course I'll ask," he said. "[But] it's gonna depend on me. I don't think any one person is gonna sway me, so like I said, I'm not worried about it this year."

Most expect the star defensive back to declare, but that remains to be seen.

Until then, there's a ball game to be played, and Jefferson makes that very clear.
