Today
just some bits and pieces from over the weekend, but I thought the Lady Raiders
finished their November schedule on a strong note with their three weekend
blowout wins.
Their
wins over Southern Utah, Nicholls St., and New Orleans brought some things we
really needed to see from this team - first of which was rebounding better. In
all of Texas Tech's first three games they were outrebounded. In their last three they weren't.
They also
needed to shoot the ball better as a team - and did.
From the
field, the free throw line, and the three-point line they put the ball in the
basket at a much better clip than they did the previous three. And individually I think they really
wanted to see if Casey Morris could find the stroke again and she did. The same goes for Jackie Patterson, who
ended up with a double-double in Sunday's finale of
the Basketball Travelers Invitational.
The bench
was pretty solid too (isn't it fun watching two 6'5 sisters out there), and
Amber Battle got some work at the point which will have to happen more now that
Minta Spears is out. She will need more work, but has a lot
of upside with her speed and quickness and should be fun to watch develop
spelling Monique Smalls.
As has been
the case with this team, the level of competition will rise now on through
December.
It's a nice
Lamar team coming in here Saturday, with Illinois, Oregon State, Michigan State, and Houston on the December schedule.
So we will
see if there's a carry-over from the successes of this past weekend because,
don't look now, but conference play is barely over a month away!
