Robinson Takes In the Iron Bowl
Cameron Robinson made the trip to Tuscaloosa Saturday after his West Monroe team advanced to the semifinals with a 34-14 victory against Airline on Friday night. Robinson took in the Iron Bowl, the second game he's seen at Bryant-Denny Stadium with the first being last year's game between Alabama and LSU.
Though the game wasn't much of a contest — with the Tide cruising to a 49-0 victory — Robinson still enjoyed watching Alabama's offensive line, which he considers to be one of the best in the country.
"It was a pretty cool game," Robinson said. "Overall it was a good team win. It was a great game…[The offensive line] played amazingly. I've come to expect that from them. They play great every week, every time they get the opportunity. It wasn't anything that I didn't expect."
Robinson unofficially visited LSU twice this season for the Tigers' games against South Carolina and Alabama. He plans to visit both Alabama and LSU for their respective spring games, and camp at both schools in the summer.
Though Alabama and LSU are his clear favorites at the moment, neither one appears to have an edge on the other.
"They're both amazingly loud," Robinson said. "I can't tell you one thing one has that the other doesn't. They're both pretty loud. They're both good."
Robinson and the West Monroe Rebels are one win away from defending its 2011 state championship. They will travel down to Lake Charles on Friday to face Barbe, the No. 2 team in Class 5A.
"I don't know too much [about them] yet," Robinson said. "We're about to start going over film and preparing for them. I know they have a pretty good receiver (Trey Quinn) and they got a tight end that's committed to LSU (Desean Smith). Obviously they like to throw it around a lot. It will be a good challenge for our defense. We'll see how they can defend the pass. I'm looking forward to it."
This is Robinson's first season with West Monroe after he transferred from Ouachita Parish. This season marks his farthest run into the playoffs, but that hasn't had any affect on his preparation.
"It's not too big of a deal," Robinson said. "I just try to take it game by game. No game is bigger than any other game. I'm just trying to look at it that way."
