The last few weeks, Missouri sophomore receiver Jimmie Hunt has been playing more and more. In each of the last two games, Hunt has been on the field for nearly two dozen or more plays per game. And, Hunt has become an increasingly effective player for the Tigers. In the last two games, Hunt has returned a kickoff 87 yards for a TD, he has made 4 receptions for 80 yards and 2 TDs, and he's had 1 carry for 11 rushing yards.
He's athletic," said Coach Pinkel, speaking of Jimmie Hunt. "He's been looking better in practice, and there's carry-over. He's got a great attitude…………………………………………. Jimmie Hunt's a great kid! He's got a great work ethic, a great attitude, and he's very talented athletically. And, we're starting to see some of it."
Hunt is a natural with the ball in his hands.
"It feels natural," explained Hunt. "Once I get the ball in my hands, it's all the same from there. Make somebody miss and go and score."
Hunt has been splitting reps at the H WR spot with T.J. Moe, and Gahn McGaffie has been splitting reps with Dorial Green-Beckham at the Y WR spot. He talked about his increased playing time.
"T.J.'s been going really hard when he's in there," explained Hunt. "That allows me to get in a little bit more."
Hunt has gotten bigger since his arrival at Mizzou, and he's developed into a real good blocker on the edge, in addition to his play making ability with the football. He talked about becoming a good blocker.
"I thought it would be a key asset when I got here," said Hunt. "It's just really about the mindset. You know, being bigger helps, but it's the mindset, the approach that you take when you get ready to make the block. I've always been a physical guy."
Hunt talked about some of the things that he's working on to get better.
"(I'm working on) depth of routes, and coming off the ball hard on every play, so I don't give any tendencies to the defensive players, of when it's going to be a run or a pass," said Hunt. "I'm continuing to block hard, motivate my teammates, and be enthusiastic. Those are always my key goals for each game, each week."
On the season, Hunt has 9 receptions for 180 yards and 3 TDs. His TD/reception ratio is tops on the team. He talked about his propensity for scoring.
"That's my goal." said Hunt. "Every time I touch the ball, I want to score."
