Goodwin Headed to Olympic Trials Finals

Goodwin Headed to Olympic Trials Finals

Texas wide receiver and track standout Marquise Goodwin is one step closer to the Olympics.

On a rainy day in Eugene, Ore., Goodwin didn't put up his career-best mark, but it was good enough to push him through to Sunday's 2012 Olympic Track & Field Trial finals. Goodwin jumped 7.68 meters on his final leap, a jump of 25-02.5 that was good enough for 10th place.

Goodwin actually had four jumps over 8.10 meters at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier this month, including the championship-winning leap of 8.23 meters (27-0). So it's certainly safe to say that he has more in the tank.

"I came out here today and the weather actually felt good to me," Goodwin said.  "It kind of messed up marks here and there, but at the end of the day everybody has to go through it.  You have to go out there and just compete from round to round.  I accomplished another goal today.  I made it to the Olympic Trials finals.  The next goal is to win it."
