Goodwin and defensive back Sheroid Evans were both members of a 4x100 team that ran 39.53, the fifth fastest time on Saturday, and a good enough clocking to earn those two, along with fellow tracksters Emerson Sanders and Trevante Rhodes a trip to nationals. Evans ran the anchor leg.
Evans is generally considered the second-fastest football player in the Big 12 to Goodwin and made his mark as one of the country's top runners as a junior in high school. His best numbers came at the 2010 state track meet. That's when Evans ran an official 10.39 100-meter dash, the fourth-fastest time in the country that year, and the fastest clocking in Texas. At that same meet, Evans ran an official 20.82 200-meter dash, the fastest time in the country in the event.
Goodwin's qualifying meant that the wide receiver qualified for Nationals in three separate events, the long jump — where Goodwin will be considered one of the favorites — the 100-meter dash and the 4x100. Goodwin qualified for the long jump on Thursday, and the 100-meter open on Friday.
