NSD Scouting Report: Donald Hawkins

One-by-one, we'll take a look at every member of the Texas recruiting class.

All it takes is about two plays to get impressed with Hawkins on film. First off, he's massive at 6-foot-5 and around 320 pounds. But he moves like a much smaller player.

Hawkins didn't allow any sacks this season in junior college, and watching him, it's easy to see why. He moves his feet well, and when he locks on, it's play over. He seems to have a great understanding about establishing a pocket, and he's constantly bulling the pass-rusher not just away from the quarterback, but out of his sight-line. He does an excellent job of creating passing lanes.

As you can imagine with his size and mobility, he does a great job in run blocking as well. He's strong enough to generate push, although he does need to work on his pad level at times. He has prototypical arm length and has pop to both hands.

Hawkins was considered potentially the top offensive tackle in this year's JUCO class, and landing him will allow the Longhorns some flexibility in their starting five. Just don't be surprised when Hawkins is in that five, nor if he's able to win the same spot he held down last year: the coveted left tackle slot. Enrolling early as he did can only help.
