The Horns answered in the top of the third, scoring one run but left the bases loaded. Tim Moss doubled to right field and came around to score with Omar Quintanilla’s RBI-single. Consecutive singles from Eric Sultemeier and Dustin Majewski loaded the bases but the offensive explosion quickly fizzled when J.D. Reininger (now a fixture at third base instead of Huston Street) fouled out followed by Taylor Teagarden’s groundout to second.
Muegge was yanked in the home half of the inning after he loaded the bases with no outs. With Jesen Merle on the mound, the Ags managed one run on a sacrifice fly before DH Jordy Mitchell killed the inning with a double play. The Farmers would add one run on two hits in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
The Texas defense self-destructed in the bottom of the fifth, committing three errors plus one hit-batter as the Aggies were credited with one unearned run. But the Horns would bring the tying run to the plate in each of the final two frames.
Texas rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth to pull within 6-4 behind a RBI-triple from Joe Ferin and back-to-back, two-out, run-scoring singles from Moss and Quintanilla.
This three-game series now shifts to Disch-Falk Field for the final two contests on Saturday, at 3 p.m. and Sunday, at 1 p.m.
