Darius James Talks Recruiting

This week, Harker Heights lineman Darius James was named to the early Scout 100 for 2013. Last week, he helped his team to a big rivalry win. See what James has to say about that win, and recruiting.

Harker Heights won a key rivalry game with Killeen 38-27 behind its dominating offensive line. And right at the center of that line was 2013 lineman Darius James.

"We feel like we're the biggest line in the state of Texas and we're the most athletic line in the state of Texas," James said. "Most of the people on our line, they've played positions like receiver. So they're athletic. We just try to go out there, have fun and be physical.

"I would describe myself as a physical, athletic monster that loves to have fun," James said. "I just want to dominate people and keep working hard."

James also spends time at defensive tackle, and he said he prefers playing defense to offense. He's also good enough to get offers on both sides of the ball. But he said it wasn't a big enough deal to affect where he went to school.

"I just love playing football," James said. "I played defense at the Baylor camp, and I played offense at the Texas camp. And I love both of those schools."

While those are the schools that earned a camp visit from the rising junior, and while he has offers from Texas A&M and Tulsa James said he's "gotten letters from everywhere."

"Wherever you can think of, I'm hearing from," James said.

James said he would like to keep his favored schools private for the moment, though he did concede that Harker Heights teammate Camrhon Hughes, a Texas commitment, was vying for his signature with the Longhorns.

"He's kind of mellow about it," James said. "At the end of the day, he knows it's my choice. Right now, I'm just doing what I can and focusing on playing football."

James did say that he liked the Longhorns, especially offensive line coach Stacy Searels, who worked with him at the Texas camp.

"I love him. He's a fun guy," James said. "He reminds me of my coach. He likes to have fun, but he knows when it's time to get down to business.

"He's just a fun person," James said. "I like him a lot."
