While Texas pounded out 14 hits, Muegge (6-4) held the Wildcats to a harmless seven hits while striking out six to register his first career complete game. His nine-inning effort was the first for a UT hurler since Justin Simmons went the distance against Texas A&M last May.
Once again, Dustin Majewski paced the offensive onslaught with his 3-for-5 outing, including three runs scored and a RBI. The Wildcats were guilty of three errors while Texas infield has solidified since Huston Street took over at the hot corner just before the Baylor series earlier this month.
Texas jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind RBI singles from Omar Quintanilla and Majewski, plus a run-scoring, squeeze bunt from Eric Sultemeier. The Horns added two unearned runs in the bottom of the third behind sacrifice bunts from both Sultemeier and Taylor Teagarden combined with a Wildcats' throwing error.
Texas added four more runs in the fourth to grab a 9-0 lead thanks largely to five base hits, including run-scoring singles from Quintanilla, Sultemeier and J.D. Reininger. Texas plated three more runs in the sixth on four singles and the second hit batter of the contest.
Muegge held KSU to two hits until the seventh when Brad Anzman singled in Ryan Baldwin to get the Wildcats on the board at 12-1.
Game two of the three-game series is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Disch in a regionally televised Fox Sports Net broadcast.
