Texas Has First Player Selected

Aaron Williams, Texas's lone early-entry into the draft this season, became the Longhorns' first draft pick Thursday, when the Buffalo Bills made him the second pick of the second round, the 34th selection overall.

Williams earned second-team All-Big 12 honors this year, recording 46 tackles, 30 of them solo, making one sack and leading the Longhorns with 13 passes broken up. He played quite a bit of nickel back, showing run-support ability by making five tackles for loss and forcing three fumbles, while also blocking a punt.

The Bills had the 24th ranked defense in 2010, though they were third in the league in pass defense. Buffalo was 32nd in run defense. In the first round, the Bills took Marcell Dareus with their first-round pick to help along the defensive line.

In Williams, they'll get a versatile playmaker who made 11 tackles for loss over the past two years and who blocked four punts as a freshman, tying him for first all-time on Texas's single season stat list. Williams can play either cornerback or safety at the next level.
