The Huskers claimed their second straight win of the series to now lead Texas by one full game in league standings. Starting pitcher J. P. Howell (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season despite fanning eight (one shy of matching his career best for strikeouts) in 6-1/3 innings of work.
After a 30 minute rain delay, Tim Moss led off the contest with a solo home run, while two outs later Majewski answered with his own round-tripper to give Texas a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
The score stood until the fifth when Alex Gordon connected on a two-out, three-run home run to right to put the Huskers on top 3-2. Two frames later, Texas loaded the bases with one out but could only squeeze across one run with Omar Quintanilla’s sacrifice fly.
Nebraska reclaimed the lead, 6-3, in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run home run from Matt Hopper. Taylor Teagarden’s RBI-double in the eighth then cut Texas' deficit to two before the Horns attempted to rally in their final at bat.
Majewski, Teagarden and Huston Street each collected two hits.
This series now shifts to Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., for the final contest of this three-game series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. (CST), Sunday.
