Williams's absence leaves the Longhorns with no true small forwards on the roster past surefire starter Jordan Hamilton.
It was unsure how much Williams would play this year, as he was still recovering from injuries suffered last season. But the redshirt freshman had spent time both as a small forward and as a face-up power forward in practice, and he said that the Texas coaches intended to use him in both spots.
At Texas Media Day last week, Williams listed rebounding as his biggest strength.
Williams will continue to take classes in Austin through the semester before deciding which college to transfer to.
